Right Here
Right Here is probably the clearest representation of who I am as an artist so far.
A few months before I wrote it, I really wasn't feeling like myself.
I'd just released my EP All In My Head in November 2025 and, I thought I might be done making music. At the same time, I was leaving a place I'd worked for 5 years, while everyone around me seemed to be moving into completely different stages of life of buying houses, having kids, settling down, just figuring their lives out in general.
Cut to my apartment, I felt more emotional, anxious, and lost than I ever had before.
Then in February 2026, I found out that some people I knew had been saying some pretty nasty things about me to one of my friends following a misunderstanding we'd had about a month or so before.
Now to caveat, I am fully aware that people talk, and usually I couldn't care less.
But that wasn't really what bothered me.
It was the fact that they were saying these things to someone I cared about, and, what I thought then, they didn’t defend me.
(to give credit where it’s due, I came to find after writing the song, they actually did but anyway moving on with the story)
Now normally, I have absolutely no problem getting in the paint and standing up for myself and what I believe in.
But this time was different.
I was already emotionally exhausted and, for once, I didn't want to fight. I just wanted to cave in.
I didn't feel defended.
I didn't feel heard.
I felt helpless quite honestly.
And looking back, it wasn't really just about that situation. It was the straw that broke the camel's back.
Every part of my life seemed to be changing. The people around me were changing, I was turning into someone that I didn’t recognise, and I felt like I couldn't control a lot of it.
A few days passed and I was still in this rut.
I wasn't seeing anyone, nobody really knew how I was feeling, and I felt very alone.
So in an attempt to make myself feel better I went to my keyboard. I wasn’t expecting much because, as I say, I thought that I was coming to the end of making music and was just trying to do something fun.
But, I started playing this chord pattern that eventually became the intro to Right Here, although at that point it was much slower and much more emotional.
I'd also seen a quote somewhere saying that time heals all wounds, and that got me thinking:
Okay. Let me just break down what I've actually got on my plate here.
And that's where the first verse came from.
-
Take a breather, yeah the time is yours
Okay, if it's a healer I'll lay it on the floor"
That thought led into the next section:
Saying I'm seeing and feel in a tough position
I could fight it or leave it, it's my decision
Yeah, the freedom's a tease and it's kinda hitting
But when I stand with my back to the opposition, it's like they're onto me
I was basically figuring out how I felt as I was writing it and in that process, I realised that I had time. I didn't need to have everything figured out immediately.
Then for the first time in a long time, I felt something inside me shift slightly. It was like I got a glimpse of light at the end of the tunnel.
I stepped away from the writing and started working on the production for a couple of hours because I was feeling a little confident
And after blacking out and coming to a few hours later, I'd somehow gone from this slow, emotional idea to this big, explosive instrumental.
And it finally felt right.
Then…
I'd had a few wines.
Classic.
I was listening to the instrumental on repeat because I loved it so much, and suddenly I realised something I couldn't change what was happening and remember thinking:
You know what? If you've got something to say, say it to me. You don't need to go to my friends about it. I'm not going to let this be the thing that breaks me. I'm going to address it.
And with that came the chorus.
-
Now I'm right here to take you on again
It's like my mind's made up, I'm not gonna give in
'Bout to remind you who the hell I am
You're taking liberties on my peace, what you need, it's calling me in
Right here
The minute I had that, I felt like I could breathe and it felt like a weight had been taken off my shoulders.
It was like the pop after you pump a balloon up too much.
I had remembered who I was FINALLY!
The second verse then became about remembering what I already knew about myself.
I speak up.
I fight for what I believe in.
And I definitely do NOT stop moving just because other people aren't moving with me (even though it still sucks).
-
Taking a breather, I think I've found the cure
And it's a fever, soon you'll be wanting more
Oh I feel and I speak like I'm on a mission
I'm as real as I feel and that's my disposition
Yeah when I fight it's a light that ignites the rhythm
But when I stand with my back to the opposition
That's probably what makes Right Here so important to me.
It's confident without pretending vulnerability doesn't exist - which is where I am at now at the time of writing this.
And it’s an good feeling knowing that I can, as Hannah Montana said, get the best of both worlds.
It's one of the first songs I've written where I can hear exactly what I was feeling at every stage of the process. It's almost like a sonic diary of that week.
But there's another reason…
It made me realise I want to pursue music properly. It was like a sign telling me not to give up!
So when you start to feel a bit uneasy, you just have to find your feet again.
You don’t have to pretend that your vulnerability doesn’t exist to feel confident.
